About my Art & Inspiration
My art is inspired by my experiences & perspectives on life, culture, and relationships with ourselves & others.
I celebrate emotions through energetic mark making & vibrant colours influenced by my Indian heritage.
India, England, Malaysia, Singapore, Miami & Norway – are all places I have called home at some point in my life & they too create a layer, a story .... that might desire to be told.
It was after my Cancer diagnosis in 2020 that I rediscovered my love & passion for art and mark making ... again.
It is cathartic & it continues to be my therapy on my personal healing journey.
My work has evolved over the years but has become more expressive since 2020 during my healing process & realisation of impermanence. The transient nature of everything…including ourselves.
In the past I painted only landscapes and flowers but recently I am doing more intuitive semi abstract work & find myself painting emotive figures & faces, auras & Spirits.
I believe that my art helps me to connect to something deeper Within me .... it feels like a special form of communication, understanding between my body, mind & spirit.
It represents my Truth.
My paintings are a direct expressions of my beliefs, perceptions and experiences at this time.
I use acrylics, inks & crayons & collage as my main mediums of choice – I have found comfort in abstract creations & the freedom & ease they allow me.
I work on layers, history, telling stories …one layer may camouflage, anothe may reveal something that was forgotten. Until…intuitively, I stop... when the story, the painting feels complete .... for now,
My paintings can be very emotive… & quite intense at times as they express deep emotions.
However, the actual act of creating sliding/splashing or delicately applying paint or crayons across the page/canvas can be quite meditative and calming.
Sometimes the strokes are more aggressive and explosive on the canvas as that is what I feel needs to be expressed...from deep within & occasionally it’s the complete opposite.
I never “plan” my paintings but instead allow them to emerge upon the surface of my canvas organically.
I love working intuitively...listening deeply to my Soul.
It is not always pretty or easy to create … but it is a healing practice for me.
I breathe.
I pause & walk away when needed.
But I always return with fresh clear eyes & a new perspective on life .... & the painting in progress.
I love when people look at my work …. their interpretation of the image is at times completely different to mine & that makes me smile.
That to me is the beauty of creating art.
You see what you see.
You feel whatever it is you feel.
I do not tell you how you should relate to my art … See what emotions arise for you on any given day.
This is the beauty of my art…how it can make you feel, evoking all kinds of emotions...through, colour, design & empty space.
